Scrying Pond

Digital Print, 2007

Scrying Pond is a black pond near my home, a remnant of an abandoned, haunted gunpowder factory. Locals say it has long been a site for dark gatherings.

Where I live, witchcraft and folklore still seep into the everyday. The title refers to the ancient practice of scrying—divination through reflective surfaces like black mirrors or water. I like to imagine the pond gripping onto the darker yearnings wished upon it, its still surface quietly bearing witness to our shadows.

There is a power in exploring the darker parts of ourselves. True growth comes not from denying them, but in embracing both light and shadow—learning to see ourselves whole.
