Revenant captures the low winter sun at the solstice reflected on a wall. Solstice, from the Latin solstitium meaning “sun standing still,” marks the annual alignment of the sun’s path—a pause in time. This moment of stillness carries the weight of both reflection and anticipation, as the sun begins its return. There are still pockets of folk who mark and celebrate this occasion. Revenant is ghostly, insignificant almost. A fleeting reflection of a return of the sun—as revenant translates to “one who returns.” It reflects the continuation of cycles, the return of light, and the invisible forces that shape how we used to live. Revenant serves as a reminder of the transient yet persistent legacy of those who came before us—our memories, our genes, the struggles and triumphs that have brought us to where we stand. Still here, in this moment.

It speaks to the passage of time: never to be replicated, much like the unique makeup of everything that’s ever been.
