Heolstor
Mixed Media, 2008
Heolstor, derived from the Old English word for “hiding place,” evokes the sense of something concealed—hidden power, waiting in the shadows. This title subtly links to the modern translation of holster, a place to hide a weapon, a quiet space charged with potential, unseen threat.
The piece weaves again with the recurring theme of duality—the constant tension between two worlds. Here, I bring in the swamp, an environment rich in contradictions. On the surface, it’s a murky, undulating realm, quiet and spectral. Yet beneath that stillness lies a hidden clarity, a chaotic truth that only reveals itself when you’re brave enough to face what’s submerged. The swamp becomes a metaphor for that space between clarity and confusion, life and decay, visible and invisible.
